Food tasting catered by the FCCJ culinary students.
Students from the Institute of the South for Hospitality & Culinary Arts at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, led by Professor Robbert Bouman, created a spectacular lunch inspired by the exotic flavors of Ethiopia for PRI Productions staff. The meal was prepared as a final project for the graduating students of the 2-year program at FCCJ’s North Campus.
Being in the event business, PRI has plenty of experience working with caterers and has high standards when it comes cuisine. Chef Robbert feels that this is precisely the reason why serving PRI productions staff is a great final test for the students. This is the 4th year that students have created fantastic meals for employees’. (Quote from Randy) Maybe something about how you were amazed that you would even like Ethiopian food, or maybe discuss their superb presentation, service, or maybe the exotic flavors… The Institute opened its doors in 1990 and focuses on teaching the students all aspects of the culinary experience from start to finish. Class sizes are small by design to facilitate hands on learning. Students get real world experience through their 5 star restaurant, Mallard Room, at FCCJ’s North Campus and through their internship programs with some of the best restaurants, hotels, and resorts in the United States. Chef Robbert worked in the Hospitality Industry for 23 years and left to pursue teaching the Culinary Arts to spend time with his family. He enjoys seeing the passion students get for the culinary arts and seeing them succeed in the business. Each professor at the school works with two different charities a year to show the students the importance of giving back to the community and giving them hands on experience in the catering world. PRI Productions is pleased to be a part of the learning experience for the Institute and we look forward seeing what they come up with next year. |
